The Apam District highway police patrol team have arrested six persons in connection with the blockage of the Gomoa Ankamu-Cape Coastroad on Saturday night.
According to reports, the youth have been illegally constructing speed ramps on the Winneba – Apam road after they claim 10 people have been knocked and killed by drivers plying the road.
The suspects, Joseph Arhin, Emmanuel Okorm, Joseph Abekah, John Mensah, Abraham Tetteh and Kofi Lokko according to the police were among the people who blocked Gomoa Ankamu – Cape Coast high way causing nuisance to road users.
Briefing the media, the Deputy Public Relations Officer of the Central Regional Police Command SGT. Isaac Evans Ettie stated that the “Apam District Highway Police Patrol Team on April 24, 2021, arrested suspects Joseph Arhin; Emmanuel Okorm; Joseph Abekah; John Mensah; Abraham Tetteh; and Kofi Lokko on the account that they were among the people who blocked the Gomoa Ankamu – Cape Coast High Way; causing nuisance to road users to the extent of banging some vehicles and burning car tyres”. According to him, “all suspects were detained and later granted police enquiry bail on April 25, 2021”.
In another development, Godwin Quarshie, aged 19years who has been arrested; and an accomplice who is on the run is suspected to have partially blinded an Okada rider with powdered pepper in a bid to rob him of his motor bike on the Gomoa Akotsi-Agona Kwanyako road has been arrested, detained and assisting police with investigations.
According to Sgt. Ettie, “the Dominase District Police received report on April 25, 2021, that suspect Godwin Quarshie and one other suspect currently at large took a certain Okada from Gomoa Dasum to Gomoa Akotsi junction. On reaching the Gomoa Akotsi – Agona Kwanyako road, suspect Godwin Quarshie and his accomplice poured powdered pepper into the eyes of the Okada rider; beat him up and took the motor bike from him”.
He added that the” Okada rider raised alarm and with the help of other Okada riders and some youth from the villages around, the suspect was arrested together with the motorbike at Gomoa Amoanda while his accomplice escaped; subjected to him to severs beatings and almost lynched until one Okoto, a drinking spot operator rescued him”. Sgt. Ettie further noted that “on receipt of the report, police proceeded to the scene of the crime at Gomoa Amoanda where they met a mob numbering about 150 holding pieces of wood and shouting aggressively for the release of the suspect”.
However, “police managed to rescue the suspect but the motorbike could not be retrieved; while a police officer was also injured by a stone thrown at him in the process”.
Meanwhile, the Agona Duakwa police yesterday around 4am arrested and detained Mary Quaye, also known as Obaa Yaa for inflicting cutlass wounds on the neck of her husband, Abraham Acquah during an altercation between the two.
In a brief released to the media, SGT. Isaac Evans Ettie stated that the Agona Duakwa police received report around 0100 hours that Abraham Acquah hit the wife with a piece of wood during the altercation before she inflicted the wounds on him.
She has been arrested, detained and assisting Police with investigation while the husband is receiving treatment at the Agona Swedru Government Hospital.
