Ursula Owusu-Ekuful, Minister of Communication and Digitalisation, has stated that the Ministry would not extend the deadline for the statewide SIM card registration exercise.
As a result, she stated that all unregistered SIM cards will be terminated by the end of July this year, and she asked mobile phone users who had yet to register their SIM cards to do so.
Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful issued the warning at the conclusion of the Ahafo Regional Celebration of the Girls-in-ICT Initiative, which was held in Acherensua in the Asutifi South District on the theme “Access and safety.”

The Girls-in-ICT initiative, one of the Ministry of Communications and Digitalisation (MoCD)’s programs, was in accordance with the International Girls-in-ICT Day, a 2012 effort supported by the International Telecommunications Unions (ITU) in Member States.
It sought to encourage and empower girls and young women to pursue education and professions in ICT in the growing sectors of ICTs, allowing both girls and technology firms to profit from more female involvement in the ICT industry.
Under the project, 1,000 girls from chosen primary schools in the Region were given the chance to participate in a one-week intensive ICT training in basic computers, which included programming, coding, gaming, scratch typing, and a mentorship program.
Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful stated that the country’s mobile phone subscribers and users had been given ample time and opportunity to register their SIM cards, adding, “there is no way we are going to extend the deadline again.”
She stated that SIM card registration was critical because it would considerably aid the country’s efforts to combat increasingly sophisticated internet and cybercrime.
Concerning the Girls-in-ICT initiative, Mrs. Owusu-Ekuful stated that the Ministry was determined to keep the initiative going in order to provide more possibilities for girls to benefit from ICT education.
She emphasized that ICT education was not just for boys and men, but also for girls and women, stating that girls required ICT skills to gain exposure in the digital space.
