The estranged husband of internationally acclaimed Australian singer-songwriter Sia Furler has reportedly requested more than $250,000 (£187,000; A$384,000) in monthly spousal support following their high-profile separation, according to newly obtained US court documents.
Sia, best known for global hits such as Chandelier, Cheap Thrills, and Titanium, filed for divorce from her husband Daniel Bernard in March 2025, citing “irreconcilable differences.” The couple, who married in December 2022, share an 18-month-old son.
In his court filings, Bernard, a former radiation oncologist, claimed he requires the large monthly allowance to maintain what he described as the “luxurious and upper-class lifestyle” he enjoyed throughout their marriage.
“We never needed to monitor our living expenses,” Bernard stated, adding that he became “financially dependent on Sia” after leaving his medical profession to pursue a joint business venture with her — a short-lived medical enterprise that reportedly failed to generate sustained income.
According to the documents, the couple’s monthly expenses exceeded $400,000, covering private jets, luxury vacations, fine dining, designer wardrobes, and the salaries of several full-time domestic staff.

Bernard, 47, also emphasized that the support order is “necessary” because Sia, 49, was the sole financial provider during their relationship. He contended that his earning potential had diminished since leaving medicine and that returning to his field would not be immediate.
“It would take me several years of retraining and passing multiple certification exams before I could resume medical practice,” he noted.
In addition to the monthly spousal support, Bernard is seeking further payments to cover legal fees and forensic accounting, which would likely be used to analyze the couple’s financial assets and business records.

Sia, who has built an estimated multimillion-dollar fortune through her music, songwriting, and film projects, has not yet issued a public response to the claims. Her representatives have been contacted for comment.
The case underscores the financial and emotional complexities often surrounding celebrity divorces, particularly those involving vast wealth and differing lifestyles. Legal experts say that such high-value spousal support requests often depend on the duration of the marriage, prenuptial agreements (if any), and the established standard of living during the relationship.
As proceedings unfold, the public will be watching closely to see how one of pop music’s most enigmatic and private stars navigates this deeply personal chapter in her life — one that could become one of the most talked-about celebrity divorce battles of the year.
