The Bono East Regional Police Command has stated that it will conduct swift and thorough inquiries into the murder of Sheikh Ali Ahmed Maikano, a well-known Muslim cleric in the area, in order to apprehend the perpetrators.
Sheikh Maikano was shot and killed by highway armed robbers on the Abromase road near Yeji in the Pru West District of the Bono East Region on Tuesday, 16th March,2021 about 2000 hours.
He was driving from Kajebu, where he had been a guest speaker at a gathering, to his home in Prang.
The incident was reported to the Ghana News Agency on Thursday, 18th March,2021 at Techiman by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCOP) Mr Asumadu Okyere-Darko, the Bono East Regional Police Commander.
He said the complainant, Mr Abdul Mumuni, told the Yeji Police that he was riding a motorcycle with Sheikh Maikano on the Kajewu stretch of road when some unknown individuals appeared and began firing at them, but he (Mumuni) was lucky to escape unharmed.
DCOP Okyere-Darko said he was escorted to the scene by the police, who discovered Sheikh Maikano motionless on the lane.
They rushed him to the Yeji Government Hospital, where he was pronounced dead, according to him. His body has since been placed in the morgue at the hospital for storage.
