Shatta Wale’s time in court appears to be far from done.
On Monday, an Accra Circuit Court adjourned the case of the Reggae/Dancehall artistes in which he is being tried for false news publication until April 19, 2022.
According to GNA, the case was rescheduled at the request of the attorney for the ‘My Level’ hitmaker Jerry Avenogbo.
Mr. Avenogbo told the publication that he had officially notified the court of the singer’s inability to appear in court for the trial.
He stated that Shatta Wale was not present in the country.
Early in March, the musician traveled to Ohio, in the United States of America, to perform with colleague Medikal. He has yet to return to the country.
The self-acclaimed dancehall king, born Charles Nii Armah Mensah on October 19, 2021, turned himself in after the police had declared him wanted.
The musician allegedly made up a narrative about being shot and receiving treatment, which turned out to be a fabrication.
He and his other collaborators, Kojo Owusu Koranteng, also known as Nana Dope, Eric Venator, alias Gangee, and Iddriss Yussif, are being charged with publishing fake news.
Shatta Wale is being held on ¢100,000 bond on his recognizance, while his accomplices are each being held on ¢100,000 bail with a surety.
Meanwhile, his colleague Medikal, who was detained for brandishing a pistol around the same time, was convicted in February 2022.
After pleading guilty to the allegation of unauthorized public exhibition of weaponry, the rapper was released.
