Shatta Wale, a reggae/dancehall artiste, has joined numerous Ghanaians in mocking Nigerians for losing a spot in the World Cup Qualifiers to Ghana.
Shatta Wale was heard laughing as he sang “Naija carry last” in a Snapchat video.
He claimed that, despite boasting about being better than Ghana, when the two teams met on the pitch, they saw the superior team.
Shatta Wale went on to say that, while Nigerians pretend to be at the top of the charts, football has shown them the reality.
The senior national squad, led by head coach Otto Addo, secured a place in the World Cup event on Tuesday evening after defeating Nigeria’s Super Eagles. The game finished with a score of 1:1. Ghana, on the other hand, qualified on the away goal rule.
Thomas Partey opened the score for Ghana in the 10th minute with a tremendous shot from beyond the penalty box, but William Troost-Ekong evened for the home side.
Despite multiple opportunities by Nigeria in the second half, there was no goal to separate the two sides, and Ghana qualified on the away goal rule.
The joy at Abuja’s Moshood Abiola Sports Stadium, however, was tempered by a wave of irate football supporters.
This result did not sit well with the massive throng of Nigerians in the stands, who were left unsatisfied by the end of the 90-minute game.
Hundreds of them burst through the barricades in the 60,000-person stadium and rushed for the tunnel to start an attack.
To avert further attacks, Ghanaian players and fans were promptly removed from the stadium.
However, the vandalism persisted. The enraged supporters destroyed the area and tossed things down the tunnel at their team while surrounded by tear gas.
