Self-discipline holds the key to overcoming bad habits and paving the way to a healthier, more fulfilling life.
Senior Lecturer at the Department of Management, Dr. (Mrs.) Joan-Ark Manu Agyapong is of the view that as individuals strive for personal growth and well-being, the crucial role of self-discipline is being recognized as a fundamental tool for transformation.
She shed light on the profound impact of self-discipline on breaking free from bad habits.
Through rigorous studies and practical insights, she unveiled the inner workings of self-discipline and its potential to empower individuals to take charge of their lives.
Dr. Mrs. Ayapong stressed for one to overcome bad habits and negative behavioral addiction, maintaining self-discipline with always visualizing the consequences is key.
She said “Visualizing means that you take your time and know that these bad habits or these negative behavioral addictions have negative implications on others and on me as well. So, you visualize the implication and you stay put.
“Visualizing alone keeps you motivated to keep changing. And maintaining as well, you need to find healthier alternatives.” she continued.
In an interview on the ATLANTIC WAVE, Dr. (Mrs.) Joan-Ark Manu Agyapong emphasized that self-discipline is not merely about willpower, but a trainable skill that can be developed with practice and consistency.
She, however, affirmed the importance of individuals struggling with bad habits creating a support system for themselves.

These support systems she notes, should be from family, friends, and wider support groups among others who can provide encouragement and accountability to victims of bad habits.
“And I would say that you the individual, ‘the life is me; I’m living my life’; you’re not living your life alone. The life that you are living has an impact on others, either negative or positive. So, you need to be able to practice self-care. Self-care means being really mindful of your physical health, mental well-being, and your overall quality of life.” she added.
