Travelers planning travels to Europe’s Schengen Area may see slightly increased fees beginning today, June 11, 2024.
The European Commission has announced a 12% rise in visa application fees for short-term Schengen visas (type C). According to the European Commission, the rise is due to the “general Union-wide inflation rate and the weighted average of the salaries of Member States’ civil servants between 1 July 2020 and 1 July 2023”.
The new standard cost for adults is €90, up from €80 previously. Children aged 6 to 12 will also experience a minor increase, with costs rising from €40 to €45. Thankfully, visas for children under the age of six remain free of charge.

As a reminder, a Schengen visa permits non-EU nationals to visit any member country inside the Schengen zone for up to 90 days in a 180-day period. This visa allows you to travel to all Schengen nations while it is valid, but it does not allow you to stay for more than 90 days or work or do business within the zone.
