Ex-Ghanaian international Samuel Inkoom has descended on the Ghana Premier League describing it as unattractive to sponsors and foreign players.
Inkoom in his comment about the state of the GPL outlined some major plans that could help change the face of the local league and make it look attractive to others across the world.
The domestic league has suffered from a lack of patronage including sponsorship, a situation that has led the league to unattractive stadiums, quality of play, publicity, and good pitches.
Attempts by the Ghana FA to secure a sponsor for the league so far haven’t been successful.

Speaking to ghanasportspage.com the experienced defender said; “I think they are not bad. They are doing the right thing but they have to do more because when you compare other leagues to the Ghana league you can see that as a football nation we have to do extra and then we have to do more. After all, when you check in terms of pitches and facilities in football, we need a lot of football patches also the quality. Inkoom revealed.
“I know that we are not the money nation but at least everybody knows African country like Ghana and when you mention the name you can’t take it out from football and I think we need also more sponsorship in the game to also improve the quality of the players because checking at the performance, when you compare Al Ahly now and how they can sign players like 1.4 million, compare to the Ghana league and see a player that you can even boast about that he has signed even $50,000 contract. This is something that we have to make it attractive for people to come inside not only Ghanaians also foreign players have to come because if you check we have been a World Cup three times as a country so it that tells you that we have the quality but we have to push the league to be more attractive to people outside to come and play the league.
“I think so far so good we will get there. We just have to advise ourselves to do more. Is not only about the national team. The quality players will come through the league so if we all started from the league imagine where we are now. It tells you that if you give more opportunities to the young ones and those who are coming the league will be very-very interesting.” He concluded.
The Ghana Premier League is already in its 17th week and, it is highly impossible to secure sponsorship at this time, but some officials of the FA are confident of securing sponsorship for the 2021/22 league season.
