Samsung Electronics confirmed on Tuesday that co-CEO Han Jong-Hee passed away at the age of 63 due to cardiac arrest. A pivotal figure in Samsung’s consumer electronics and mobile sectors, Han dedicated over 37 years to the company.
He became vice chairman and CEO in 2022, overseeing Samsung’s TV, electronics, and home appliance divisions. His leadership was instrumental in maintaining the company’s status as a global technology leader, even amid challenging market conditions.
Following his death, co-CEO Jun Young-Hyun, who was recently appointed to lead Samsung’s semiconductor division, will take over as the sole CEO.

Han joined Samsung in 1988 after earning a degree in electrical engineering from Inha University. Before assuming his leadership role, he was vital in advancing Samsung’s display technologies.
