The Communications Director of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has reacted to backlash from sections of Ghanaians concerning a cartoon of slain George Floyd he showed on his Facebook page.
Earlier today, Mr. Gyamfi put on his Facebook wall a cartoon of President Akufo-Addo and the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Jean Mensah, which portrayed Ghanaians gasping for breath, the same way the late George Floyd fought for his when he was pinned to the ground by Minneapolis Police officer which later resulted in Mr. Floyd’s death.
However, Mr. Gyamfi has justified his earlier action; saying the cartoon is in no way mocking the painful death of George Floyd.

“This cartoon doesn’t mock the painful xenophobic murder of George Floyd or seek to exploit same for political capital in any way”, he said.
According to him, he only put it there to call out the Electoral Commission for their defiance with regard to the compilation of a new voters’ register for this year’s general elections.
“In Ghana today, the Jean Mensah-led Electoral Commission is seeking to disenfranchise millions of eligible voters through a xenophobic voter register and the potential victims of this grave injustice are screaming for breath; they are screaming for their inalienable right to vote”, he said.
Mr. Gyamfi’s post has sparked debate on some social media platforms with split interpretations by the general public.
