Parliament has approved Sam George as the Minister for Communications, Digitalisation, and Innovations by majority consensus after the Minority in Parliament abstained from the approval process.
The Minority had initially planned to request a secret ballot, raising concerns over George’s past remarks and conduct during his vetting.
However, following appeals from senior parliamentary figures, they chose to step aside rather than oppose his nomination outright.
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin explained that the decision to abstain was made in the interest of maintaining decorum and avoiding unnecessary controversy.

Alongside Sam George, Parliament also approved four other ministers-designate, pending their swearing-in by President John Dramani Mahama.
The newly approved ministers and their portfolios are:
- Rashid Pelpuo – Minister for Labour, Jobs, and Employment. He is expected to focus on job creation and labour market reforms.
- Kofi Adams – Minister for Sports and Recreation. He will spearhead efforts to rejuvenate the sports industry and promote recreational activities.
- Joseph Nikpe – Minister for Transport. His priorities include infrastructure improvements and enhancing public transport services.
- Murtala Ibrahim – Minister for Environment, Science, and Technology. He will oversee environmental protection policies and technological advancement initiatives.
The approval process followed intense parliamentary debate, highlighting the legislature’s role in scrutinizing executive appointments.
