Salah Breaks Lampard’s Record
Mark Schwarzer played with Mohamed Salah when Salah was just 21 at Chelsea. Back then, he didn’t think much about Salah’s future. Now, Salah is a top player and has made a big impact in the Premier League.
This season, his stats are impressive: 23 games, 21 goals, and 13 assists. Recently, he scored twice in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Bournemouth. This helped him pass Frank Lampard on the all-time goalscorers list. Salah now has 178 goals, putting him sixth overall. He’s close to catching stars like Sergio Aguero and Andrew Cole. If he keeps this up, only Wayne Rooney, Harry Kane, and Alan Shearer will be ahead of him.

From Chelsea’s Early Days
Schwarzer shares his first thoughts on Salah back at Chelsea. Signed from FC Basel, Salah was fast but still learning. He struggled to fit in during his early days in London. The pressure was huge. He had to meet expectations from both the club and Egyptian fans.
At Chelsea, there were many top players like Didier Drogba and Eden Hazard. It wasn’t easy for Salah to get noticed. He was often quiet and shy in group situations. But he was always nice and loved the game.
Schwarzer remembers a match when Salah missed several chances. It frustrated everyone. Sadly, that was one of his last big chances at Chelsea. So, when he left, it made sense given the situation.
A Strong Comeback
Surprisingly, Salah made an amazing comeback. After doing well in Italy with Roma, he returned to the Premier League with Liverpool. At first, Schwarzer was unsure if this was the right move for Salah. He worried that Salah might struggle again at such a big club. But Salah proved everyone wrong. He took on the challenge well and became one of the league’s best players.
Comparing Salah to Lampard
Schwarzer sees some similarities between Salah and Lampard. Both faced a lot of pressure. Early in his career, Lampard dealt with criticism because he was Harry Redknapp’s nephew. People doubted his skill and thought he got special treatment. Yet, Lampard worked hard and became one of the best players in the Premier League’s history.
Salah shares that same drive and toughness. Both players show that age doesn’t stop you from succeeding. At 32, Salah is still in great shape, just like Lampard was later in his career. Now that Salah has passed Lampard in goals, there are still many more records for him to chase. Schwarzer believes he will get there.
