Kwasi Amoako-Atta, Minister of Roads and Highways, has mandated that toll collection on public roads and bridges cease today, Thursday, November 18.
The order went into effect at 12:00 a.m. today, according to a press release issued a few hours after the announcement by the Minister of Finance on Wednesday, November 17.
As a result, officials from the Ghana Police Service’s Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) will be stationed at tollbooths around the nation to provide security for the successful implementation of this instruction.
“Motorists are kindly advised to approach the locations with caution and observe all safety measures that will be put in place,” the press release said.
The suspension of road and bridge toll collection was announced by Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta during his reading of the 2022 budget statement in Parliament.
He said that the decision will go into effect soon once the budget was approved.
Personnel assigned at the tollbooths and those engaged in collecting will be reassigned.
