Minister for Roads and Highways, Kwame Governs Agbodza, has reaffirmed government’s commitment to the Big Push initiative, describing it as a historic and bold intervention to transform Ghana’s road infrastructure.
Speaking at the sod-cutting ceremony of the Big Push initiative in Accra, Mr. Agbodza disclosed that the Ministry currently owes road contractors nearly GH₵40 billion.
Despite these financial challenges, he emphasized that President John Dramani Mahama has shown leadership by launching the Big Push, which he insisted is not a political slogan but a practical solution.
“The Big Push is a bold intervention by your government, and Mr. President, let no one be deceived, we shall implement it, and the results will be there for everyone to see,” the Minister said.
He further commended staff of the Ministry of Roads and Highways and agencies under it for their dedication in translating the President’s vision into action within a short period.
“I want to thank all the staff of the Ministry and our agencies for the tremendous effort over the past seven months identifying the projects, completing the designs, and preparing them for commencement, all in line with your dream of the Big Push,” Mr. Agbodza stated.
The Minister expressed optimism that the initiative will help close Ghana’s road infrastructure deficit, ease transportation challenges, and stimulate economic activities across all 16 regions.
