Pop superstar Rihanna declared Davido’s Unavailable to be her favorite song of 2023 in an interview at her Fenty Puma launch yesterday.
Poor Gyal When Complex questioned Ri Ri about her best record, she said, “record of the year? Do I have an album girl mentality? I’m a girl who streams alone. Then, without pausing for more contemplation, Rihanna uttered “MNIKE” and “Unavailable, on repeat.” She continued by spelling out the latter’s name.
Davido tweeted, “My girl RI RI,” after quoting a video of Rihanna supporting his song.
Rihanna was seen practicing her hand swings for the “Unavailable” TikTok dance challenge with her crew members at the Fenty, The Creeper premiere.
Rihanna gave Davido a pair of the new sneakers only last September.
Unavailable, the second single off Davido’s Grammy-nominated album Timeless, was released on May 12, 2023. It spent five weeks at the top of the UK Afrobeats Singles list and three weeks at the top of the Billboard U.S. Afrobeats Songs list.
The Afrobeats song that was streamed the most on Spotify in 2023 was “Unavailable.”
The other song that Rihanna listed as her favorite for 2023 was “Mnike,” a hit song by South African singers Tyler ICU and Tumelo.za that has gone viral on the country’s music scene as well as worldwide.
Along with DJ Maphorisa, Nandipha808, Ceeka RSA, Tyron Dee and Sony Music Entertainment Africa (under exclusive license from New Money Gang Records), the song was released on April 28, 2023.
MNIKE peaked at No. 8 on the UK Afrobeats chart and at the top of the Billboard South Africa Songs list.
