The Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has charged Transport Minister Kwaku Ofori Asiamah with undertaking an impartial inquiry into the Ghana Airport Business Restricted employees’ agitations.
The Ghana Airport Company Limited’s Divisional Union of the Public Services Workers Union (PSWU) says the company’s Board of Directors is shelving a study that supports accusations of mismanagement and misuse of office leveled against Mr. Kwakwa.
In a meeting with the Transport Minister, the Asantehene stated that if Mr. Kwakwa is found to be complicit, he must be fired; otherwise, he should be able to continue working.
“I’m not sure what’s bothering the staff, but Kwakwa is doing well. So please look into it and get back to me.”
“The workers’ agitation may be fuelled by someone who perhaps is interested in the position Yaw Kwakwa is occupying. So please look into it and let me know what you find out. We can fire Kwakwa if he has embezzled money. But if he’s working hard to service this loan, he should be encouraged and supported to continue his work,” the Asantehene said.

Staff went on strike on February 27 in reaction to the charges of malfeasance leveled against Mr. Kwakwa.
The union has previously raised concerns about this problem and petitioned President Akufo-Addo about it.
The staff said in the petition that Mr. Kwakwa had shown “extreme ignorance, insensitivity, and lack of knowledge of the vital aviation sector, and thus his continued stay in office would further derail the company’s development.”
They accused Mr. Kwakwa of stalling the implementation of many studies that had been sitting on his desk for more than two years, as well as exporting core facets of the company’s activities at exorbitant prices despite the existence of in-house capacity.
