Madam Sirina Mahamadu, the Bono Regional Leader of the Ghana Federation of Disability (GFD), has appealed to the government, charitable supporters, and philanthropists to offer Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to People with Disabilities (PWDs).
She pointed out that having sufficient PPE would allow them to adhere to the government’s and health authorities’ protection precautionary steps, preventing them from contracting and transmitting the virus and contributing to the fight.
She made the appeal in an interview with the Ghana News Agency (GNA) following a presentation at the Bono Regional Health Directorate yearly Performance assessment meeting in Sunyani on the subject “challenges of PWDs in the COVID -19 pandemic.”
Just 94 representatives of the GFD in the Sunyani East Municipality gained from the Assembly PPE distribution, according to Madam Sirina, who clarified that the virus epidemic had a detrimental impact on their businesses and that the prohibition and ban on social events such as celebrations, funerals, and weddings during the early stages of the outbreak hurt most of the members financially.

Madam Sarina revealed that the bulk of PWDs were unable to profit from the government’s market relief package, rendering it tough for them.
COVID-19 health education, she noted, was inaccessible to the majority of members, including the hearing disabled, deaf, and blind.
Madam Sarina urged the government to prioritize PWDs in emergency situations, especially in terms of health, in order to protect the group from disasters.
She requested that the government include capacity-building instruction in professional creation in order to assist them in reviving their companies.
