Public Relations Officer of the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission-PURC in Central Region, Shelter Seyram Doe says the PURC has started investigations into customers using illegal electricity and water.
He said customers who use illegal electricity and water will be dealt with in accordance with the laws of the country.
Mr. Seyram Doe who bemoaned the activities of such customers explained that the utility services suffer a shortfall when such illegalities occur.
Speaking on ATL FM’s ATLANTIC WAVE on Thursday, he said, ‘if you happen not to be paying your bills, where can ECG be able to get their revenue to meet up with your demand? It happens like that; it creates a shortfall in their supply system… These are some of the things that bring ‘dumsor’ (power cut)”
To this end, Mr. Doe advised customers to pay their bills duly to avoid any sought of power cuts.
On her part, The Regional Manager of PURC Central Region, Madam Kesewaa Apenteng-Addo said it is important for customers to be mindful of the terms of the agreement with the utility services to avoid violating the laws regarding their terms of the agreement
She notes that most customers do not take note of the agreement behind their bill when they go in for power.
“If they look behind their bill, they would see a lot of writings, which is an agreement and people don’t read it… people go in for supply and the intent is to use it for residential purposes but with time, they end up using it for commercial purposes; maybe they have a small container in front of their house. With this same meter, they draw service from it to their container to use for commercial purposes which are not supposed to be.”
She emphasized saying people who do that are subject to disconnection as such an act goes against the rules of the agreement.
