Publishers of the contentious “History of Ghana” textbooks have assured everyone that those responsible for the study materials’ untimely publication will be brought to justice.
Badu Nkansah Publication Limited says it’s looking into how “a few” copies of the textbooks that haven’t been accepted made it onto the market.
“…and when we are done, we will make the findings of our investigations public,” the publishing house said in a statement on Monday, March 15.
Badu Nkansah Publications Limited, which has been in the industry for over 20 years, said the National Council on Curriculum and Evaluation (NaCCA) raised questions about portions of the new textbooks when they submitted them for approval.
Though NaCCA expressed satisfaction with most of the technical and content requirements, it requested that certain aspects of the books be improved “in order to meet the demands of the new curriculum,” according to the document.
“Unfortunately, a small quantity of the unpublished draft made its way into the market as it was being checked.
We’ve seen several photos on social media that have caused a justified public outcry due to their offensive tone.
“Apologies are extended without reservation for the mistake, which was not meant to berate such a broad segment of our society. Our logo reflects national unity, and we currently hire employees from all over the country.”
Sections of the new textbooks depict Ewes, Ashantis, and other ethnic groups in a negative light.

The Ewes have been outraged by the material, with their chiefs demanding that the textbooks be destroyed immediately.
Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Member of Parliament for North Tongu Constituency, has also filed an urgent query in Parliament, effectively summoning the Minister of Education to come and explain the situation.
