The Metro health promotions officer at the Cape Coast health directorate, Aaron Asuman is urging residents in the metropolis to continue to adhere to the safety protocols of the monkeypox virus as the country has recorded some cases.
According to him, although there are zero recorded monkeypox cases in the Cape Coast metropolis and the central region as a whole, it has become necessary for the general public to be proactive in managing the spread of the virus.
A report by the Ghana health service showed an upsurge of the virus. At a covid-19 press briefing on Thursday, the Director of Ghana health service, Patrick Kuma Aboagye revealed that out of the 72 suspected cases that were gathered as of June 14, 2022, 18 cases have been confirmed positive.

Speaking exclusively to ATL FM NEWS, Mr. Asuman indicated that is necessary to sensitize the public about the virus through education.
According to him signs and symptoms of the virus may include “fever, headache, muscles and backache, general body pains and the visible ones are the rashes that occur on the face, hand, feet, and the body as a whole.”
To avoid it, he said the public should observe regular hand washing and also be mindful of the kind of meat they consume.
“So, the basic preventive measures that the public should observe is the regular hand washing and the source of meat. If you are not aware of the source of your meat, please, stay away from that meat; and the meat should also be well cooked before consumption. Eating of dead animals should also be avoided.” He warned.
Mr. Asuman however assured that the Ghana Health Service will continue to engage the general public through education on any new development through their surveillance team.
In a related development, the Ghana Health Service is set to embark on a vaccination campaign, hoping to get more people to go for their jabs.
The move is also to encourage people to go for their boosters to prevent an escalation of the spread of the coronavirus.
The Director of Public Health at the Ghana Health Service, Dr. Franklin Asiedu-Bekoe says the service will be embarking on the campaign from 24th to 28th June.
