A Political Marketing Strategist, Professor Kobby Mensah says the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has much to worry about over the Vice-Presidential candidate of the party, Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s comparison of records between Ghana’s first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, and current President Akufo- Addo.
Prof. Kobby Mensah questioned the platform given to the newly unveiled Vice-Presidential candidate stating that a more thoughtful approach could have been taken.
To him, Matthew Opoku Prempeh’s handlers did not do him well as that was his first big platform on a path that is crucial to contesting the Vice-Presidential ticket.
Speaking in an interview on TV3, Prof. Mensah said “I was expecting them to have him a certain setup, like what they did for Dr. Bawumia at UPSA, what the NDC did for, Prof. Naana Jane Opoku Agyemang at UPSA, and sort of have him a very serene atmosphere, where he could project his philosophy, he can project his ideological positions of key issues, he can connect with the broader, political base of the NPP, and of course, to the country at large.
“But they gave him a certain campaign rally platform, where most people do not necessarily connect on the key issues, but they wrap around just to excite the base. And that’s the platform they gave him, which wasn’t helpful. And of course, with a personality like that, when he gives them the wrong setting, they may not be able to sort of, you know, manage themselves in a manner that can connect to the broader voters.”
Professor Mensah further noted that Bawumia’s campaign team should be worried about this performance and should take steps to manage Opoku Prempeh more effectively.
He suggested scripting him to ensure he stays on message and focused, warning that failure to do so could lead to the campaign falling into disarray.
“You have to script him in order that he can stay on message, in order that he can stay focused. If you don’t, you’re actually putting the campaign in disarray. And I’m sure that most people within the leadership of the NPP will be very worried, but they should not actually just leave him. Perhaps, they could find a certain way to manage the campaign. Otherwise, it will be in disarray”, he said.
He emphasized that the NPP leadership should not leave him without proper guidance stating “Bawumia’s campaign must be worried. They must be worried for such a performance, and they must take insight in managing him. I mean, quite a number of people have actually talked about scripting him.
