President John Dramani Mahama is set to address Parliament today, Friday, February 27, with the presentation of the 2026 State of the Nation Address (SONA).
The annual address is expected to provide a comprehensive account of Ghana’s current socio-economic conditions, outline achievements recorded over the past year, and spell out the administration’s policy direction and priorities for 2026.
Key sectors anticipated to feature prominently in the speech include the economy, healthcare delivery, education, agriculture and infrastructure development. Updates on Ghana’s foreign relations and international obligations are also expected to form part of the President’s presentation.
The address is delivered in compliance with Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution, which mandates the President to appear before Parliament at the beginning of each session to report on the state of the country.
Ahead of the address, members of the Minority caucus have called on the President to move beyond general assurances and present practical solutions to the challenges confronting young people, particularly unemployment and rising economic pressures.
Meanwhile, Majority Leader Mahama Ayariga has instructed all Members of Parliament to be seated by 8:30 a.m., stressing that late arrivals will not be accommodated.
The 2026 SONA is widely anticipated to shape legislative priorities and government action plans for the year, offering insight into the administration’s roadmap for national development.
