President John Dramani Mahama has directed the immediate cancellation of all fuel allowances and fuel allocations to political appointees as part of a broader government effort to reduce public spending.
A statement dated July 15, 2025, details that it is aimed at cutting down unnecessary government expenditure and redirecting funds into critical sectors of the economy.
According to the President, leadership must lead by example and share in the sacrifices being asked of the general public.
This latest measure builds on earlier actions taken by President Mahama to streamline government spending.
These include significant reductions in the number of ministers and presidential staff, as well as the cancellation of satellite television subscriptions for government offices and the Presidency.
Felix Kwakye Ofosu, Member of Parliament and Spokesperson to the President, confirmed the directive, noting it aligns with President Mahama’s vision of prudent financial management and prioritizing the needs of the Ghanaian people.
“The President is determined to ensure that public resources are channeled into areas that yield direct benefits to the citizenry,” the statement read.
The move is expected to further strengthen public confidence in the government’s commitment to fiscal discipline.
