President Nana Addo Danquah Akufo Addo has made his affirmation to hand over electoral power successfully to the next government to be elected in 2024.
The president speaking on democratic accountability and good governance at the Kofi Annan Peace Keeping Forum on Wednesday made a pledge to respect ECOWAS protocol on good governance and not to make any changes in the electoral laws of the country to suit his parochial interest.
“I want to reaffirm before you my unshakable belief in the principles of democratic accountability which constitutes the basics of good governance in our member states. As president of the Republic of Ghana and current chair of the authority of ECOWAS states and government, I pledge to continue to respect the tenancy of the ECOWAS protocol on democracy and good governance” he emphasized.
The Kofi Annan peace-keeping forum is an annual event designed to bring together political leaders, diplomats, and experts together to dialogue and share ideas involving peace and security trends on the African continent.
Speaking at this year’s Forum which was dubbed “Democracy in the context of complex crises in West Africa”, the president called on all heads of states in ECOWAS to work towards democracy by hand over power peacefully whenever their tenure of office expires.
“I will rally my fellow ECOWAS heads of states to take the pledge and support them as they continue to work towards democracy and good governance in their respective countries.”

Military coups have recently been rampant in Africa with Sudan experiencing two of such events this year.
There was one in September which failed and the latest in which Gen Abdel Fattah Burhan dissolved the civilian arm of a transitional government and took over.
In Mali, there have been two interventions by the army in less than a year, the most recent one in May.
In Guinea, President Condé was overthrown by the army in September, and in Niger, a coup was thwarted in March just days before a presidential inauguration.
