Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang-Manu has stated that the police will start arresting recalcitrant who flout the Covid 19 safety guideline in the country.
According to him, though the fight against the virus started early, the rate at which it is now spreading within communities is alarming as some Ghanaians remain adamant to the health protocols.
“Some of us are behaving as if we have not heard what is going on,” he lamented.
Mr. Agyemang-Manu however urged Ghanaians to adhere to the directives religiously as it could help reduce the spread, “We should begin to accept that the disease will be part of us for a while but we need to try to reduce the rate at which it is spreading and we getting infected.”
He also hinted that the country’s “health service is not strengthened” enough to contain the virus, should it continue to increase in numbers.
The health minister made this remarks during the Ministry of Information press briefing on the Covid-19 pandemic Thursday.

As part of the measures to curb the situation, Mr. Agyemang-Manu also disclosed that the government is to institute workplace safety guidelines in the country.
“By tomorrow (Friday), we might come out with guidelines to guide employers and employees such that workplace practices will help us cut the spread,” he noted.
The Central Regional Deputy Director of Public Health Dr. Kwabena Sarpong, in an interview on ATL FM, also expressed worry over the disregard of most people to the social distancing protocols and compulsory wearing of masks despite the fact that they were aware of the coronavirus pandemic in Ghana.
His comments was in response to the sharp increase in conformed cases recorded in the Central Region
“You get the sense that people know about Covid-19 but they don’t care enough. They simply do not care enough and that for me and for us is very worrying”, he noted.
Dr. Sarpong said although the Ghana Health Service will continue to intensify public education and testing of cases for Covid-19, individuals must act responsibly by observing the protocols in order to contain the virus.
He warned that until individuals act responsibly, “we are going to see a lot more community spread.”
Ghana’s case count of the virus now stands at 5, 530, 647 recoveries and 24 deaths.
