The Ghana Police Service has obtained an injunction from the Accra High Court against some #FixTheCountry organizers’ planned ‘armed’ demonstration.
This comes after the Police issued a notice on June 1 to prevent the protest organizers from carrying out their planned protest.
“After hearing the application [on Friday, May 3], the Court granted an order to restrain the organisers, their agents, assigns and whoever is claiming through them from embarking on the armed demonstration as had been intended,” the Police said in a statement on Friday.
The Accra Regional Police Command had already informed the movement that it would be unable to monitor a three-day demonstration.
A group of people, including Okatakyie Afrifa Mensah, Captain Godsbrain Smart, Benjamin Darko, and Oliver Barker-Vormawor, have given the Police notice of a demonstration scheduled for Saturday, June 4.
They wanted to hire a private security company to guard the protestors and picket at the Ghana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC) and the Ghana Police Headquarters, among other things.
However, after thorough analysis, the Police determined that the demonstration violated the Public Order Act of 1994. (Act 49).
This was refuted by one of the organizers, Afrifa Mensah, who stated that their main goal was to protest the Agyapa Deal and the closure of the Achimota Forest Reserve, not to jeopardize the country’s security.

The Criminal High Court ‘4’ highlighted in its judgement that the way in which the demonstrators sought to begin their action creates a security risk.
“We would like to assure the public that the Police Service will not be an impediment in the way of any individuals or groups in the exercise of their right to demonstrate, as long as it is within the limits of the laws of the country.
“We will continue to enforce the law and ensure the safety and security of all persons in the country,” the Police added.
