The Northern Regional Police Command says it has restored calm at the Tamale Technical University following a violent clash between students and police officers during an unlawful demonstration on Tuesday, September 16, 2025.
In a statement released on Wednesday, September 17, the police explained that about 500 students massed up in front of the university’s administration block to press home their grievances.
The police noted that the gathering turned chaotic when officers, led by Superintendent Richard Lantei Odartey, were deployed to restore order.
“Upon the arrival of the police, the students became more aggressive and started pelting stones at the officers, leading to a confrontation,” the statement said.
According to the Command, the disturbances resulted in injuries to three students and three police officers, all of whom are currently receiving treatment at the hospital.
The police confirmed that no damage was caused to school property during the protest.
“Calm has since been restored, and a temporary police presence has been stationed on the campus to avert any recurrence,” the statement added.
