The Accra Police Command has requested the conveners of the #DumsorMustStop protest to relocate their public protest to the Independence Square for safety reasons.
This is in response to a planned protest against the current power outages experienced in the country.
The #DumsorMustStop protest is scheduled for May 25 and is intended to occur at the Revolution Square opposite the Jubilee House.
The Police in a letter to the conveners emphasized that the picketing at the Revolution Square which is opposite the seat of government, the Jubilee House could endanger public safety.
“That the Jubilee House which is directly opposite the Revolution Square is the seat of Government and therefore a security zone, thus the protest and picket at Revolution Square may endanger public defence, public order, public safety and violate the rights and freedom of other persons,” portions of the letter read.
The command is therefore asking the conveners to relocate the protest to the independence Square assuring of the police commitment to maintaining the law and order during the intended protest.
