Two police officers and two others appeared before the Kaneshie District Court on charges of conspiring to secede from Ghana.
Billy Akuaku and Gabriel Dorduno are both Police Inspectors assigned to the Jasikan Police District Command in the Oti Region, while Jasper Mawulolo Agudogo is a private security guard and Saviour Amanyo is a Dzodze citizen.
The four have been charged with numerous offenses, including conspiracy to commit crime, treason felony, conspiracy to commit crime by engaging in a campaign of a banned organization, Western Togoland, and conspiracy to commit crime by causing illegal harm and theft.
Due to the indictable essence of the offense, the court presided over by Ms Ama Adomako Kwakye did not take their pleas.
The court has remanded all four defendants to appear in court on May 4.
Mr Robertson Kpatsa represented the defendants.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Richard Amoah, the defendants are affiliates of banned organizations, including the Homeland Study Group (HSGF), the Western Togoland Restoration Front (WTRF), and the United Freedom Fighters (UFF).
According to Inspector Amoah, the perpetrators and others at large decided on or before September last year to secede from the Republic of Ghana.
According to the prosecution, representatives of the WTRF fortified themselves with offensive arms such as firearms, cutlasses, and cudgels and conducted attacks on selected government facilities in the Volta and Eastern Regions, including Aveyime, Mepe, Bator, Juapong, and New Akrade.
According to him, the impacted government facilities included the North Tongu District Assembly, Aveyime, and Mepe police stations.

According to the prosecution, the criminals overwhelmed police officers and broke into armouries, stealing 13 AK-47 assault weapons, five Pump Action firearms, one short gun, and Mack-3 guns loaded with 25 rounds of 37 mm Tear Gas bullets and 300 rounds of AK47 ammo.
Additionally, Mr Amoah said that they brought a Police Patrol vehicle with the registration number GP195 from Aveyime Police Station.
According to the prosecution, the criminals broke into offices at the North Tongu District Assembly and stole five desk top machines, one MTN Turbo net router, a refrigerator, and a printer.
Additionally, suspects blocked major roads connecting the Volta Region to Accra, shouting “Freedom! Freedom! Freedom!” On our land.”
According to the prosecution, the police truck, four AK47 rifles, 55 rounds of ammo, six AK 47 magazines, one bayonet, and tear gas have been recovered.
He reported that Agudogo was arrested in October last year and confessed to being a founder of UFF and an assistant to the group’s President, Raphael Tettevi.
The prosecution said that defendants Akuaku, Dorduno, and Amanyo were apprehended on April 7 and 8.
“The suspects Akuaku and Dorduno’s Western Togoland identification cards, as well as other Western Togoland-related records, were recovered from their respective quarters.
The prosecution stated that the case is still pending.
