Police in Central region have identified the deceased driver of the Kia Grand bird 48 Seater Bus involved in the gruesome accident that occurred on the Gomoa Mampong portion of the Accra –Cape Coast Highway during the weekend as Samuel Baah.
Again, suspect driver with the name Isaac Cobbina, aged 34 who was in charge of the Yutong bus, also involved in the collision, is reported to have turned himself in to the police.
Police say he is currently assisting with investigations after he was treated and discharged from the hospital.
According to Police, a Yuthong 33-seater bus with registration number GN 4741-10 was traveling from Takoradi to Accra, however on reaching a spot at Gomoa Mampong, on the Winneba Junction of the Kasoa Road, he overtook the vehicle in front and in the process collided with a Kia Grand bird 48 Seater Bus with registration number, GS 6262- 19, traveling from Accra to Elubo and was also overtaking traffic.
The front of the Kia Grand Bird Bus and the back of the Yutong Bus got damaged.
Preliminary investigations revealed that, 13 females and 11 male passengers sustained injuries, and are currently receiving treatment at the Trauma & Specialist Hospital at Winneba. Ten persons have however been confirmed dead.
