The Central Regional Police command has arrested an aspiring Member of Parliament for organising a political rally.
Mr Joseph Kofi Damte an independent aspiring Member of Parliament for the Assin South Constituency was apprehended by the police for holding a political rally without seeking approval from the Police.
A News Release issued by the Regional police command on his arrest and dated July 9 2020 said the political rally was organised in an atmosphere where people failed to “wear a face covering as well as observe social distancing.”
The release added that Mr Damte’s actions were “contrary to the provisions on Public Order, Criminal and other offences as well as impositions of Restrictions law”
Mr Damte was arrested after the Assin Fosu Divisional command of the police service received a report of his rally being held at Assin Aworoso without recourse to the law.
When the police arrived at the scene, some of the participants of the rally were present at the venue where the rally was held.
When interrogated, some of them confirmed the event had just ended and the aspirant(Mr Damte) left.
He was later arrested and is currently in police custody.
