The Central Regional Police Command has arrested two persons for their involvement in smuggling 250 bags of cocoa beans out of the country following a targeted special intelligence investigation.
In a statement issued on June 10, 2025, the police service said they received an information two weeks earlier about a syndicate involved in smuggling cocoa beans and illicit drugs operating in Elmina, in the central region.
During an intelligence led operation at 11:00pm on June 8, one suspect Andy Kwofie was arrested while driving a Hyundai Mighty truck with registration number CR-76-25 carrying 250 bags of cocoa beans.
Upon interrogation, Andy named another individual, Francis Armah, as the recipient who was expected to transport the cocoa beans by sea to neighbouring countries.
The truck has been impounded at the Regional Police Headquarters in Cape Coast with both suspects currently in custody assisting with ongoing investigations.
