The People’s National Convention’s (PNC) National Communications Secretary, Awudu Ishaq, believes the party’s suspension of its General Secretary, Janet Nabila, was unavoidable.
Mr. Ishaq stated that Janet Nabila has repeatedly cast the party in a negative light by making false accusations and attempting to destabilize the party.
“There has been a lot of negative press emanating from what she does and the kinds of things she says. There has never been an instance where she talks about what the party wants to do right. It is about accusations, trying to destabilize the party’s front, creating seeds of discord. That does not amount to what I call giving reverence to the party .”
On August 28, 2021, the PNC’s National Executive Committee (NEC) decided to suspend Nabila indefinitely for severe misbehavior, insubordination, and incompetence.
However, she has so far disputed all of the accusations leveled against her and therefore has rejected the ban.
Nabila instead claimed that the party’s Chairman, Moses Dani Baah, and its 2020 flagbearer, David Apasara, embezzled GHS70,000 from the party’s finances without accountability or justification.
Mr. Ishaq, on the other hand, maintained that the accusations of embezzlement were baseless, adding that they “qualify her for disciplinary action.”
His remarks came a day after the party’s headquarters was thrown into disarray when party officials engaged in heated arguments during a press conference to inform Ghanaians on Janet Nabila’s suspension.
While Mr. Ishaq was addressing the press, the Greater Accra Regional Chairman of the party, Bala Mei Kankan, began disrupting the program with his interjections.
Mei Kankan went to great lengths to protect the PNC’s suspended General Secretary.
After unsuccessful attempts to persuade him to leave the premises so that the briefing could continue, PNC officials and police forcefully pulled Mei Kankan out of the venue.
