Guardiola Critiques FA Cup Ball and Teases Star’s Return
Pep Guardiola has shared his frustration about the FA Cup ball. He also hinted at the comeback of an injured key player. Manchester City made it to the quarter-finals for the seventh straight year. But Guardiola focused more on the ball than his team’s win. Pep Hints at Star’s Surprise Return.

Guardiola Not Happy with FA Cup Ball
City worked hard for their 3-1 win against Plymouth. They had to come back after falling behind, thanks to two goals from young player Nico O’Reilly. Instead of celebrating, Guardiola took a shot at the FA Cup ball, which is different from the Nike ball used in the Premier League.
“The ball is not right. I’m sorry,” Guardiola said. “This has been a problem in the FA Cup and Carabao Cup for years. I know it’s a business and there are deals, but the ball isn’t good. Did you see how many shots went over the bar? It’s not just Erling (Haaland).”
He pointed out that this issue has gone on for a long time. He compared the FA Cup ball to those in other big tournaments. “I’ve said this many times. The Champions League ball is great, the Premier League ball is great, but this one is not.”
Manchester City took 29 shots against Plymouth, but only nine were on target. They struggled to find their rhythm until they scored in the 76th minute after giving up a goal in the 38th. Guardiola’s comments match what Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said after his team lost using the Carabao Cup ball. Pep Hints at Star’s Surprise Return.
“We kicked a lot of balls over the bar,” Arteta commented. “It’s tricky. This ball flies a lot. It’s different from the Premier League ball, and we have to get used to it.”
Pep Teases Star’s Return
While he was unhappy with the FA Cup ball, Guardiola shared some good news about Rodri. The Ballon d’Or-winning midfielder was supposed to miss the rest of the season due to a knee injury he got in September. But now, he’s back training before anyone expected.
Rodri was hopeful about playing again this season, but Guardiola had been careful not to rush him. However, things are looking up for Rodri’s recovery. He might be back before the Premier League season ends, and there’s even a chance he could play in the Club World Cup this summer.
“The fans should know they’re not the only ones excited,” Guardiola said. “But we need to take it slow. We don’t want to make silly decisions and face setbacks. It’s promising, but he’s not quite ready yet.”
“He’s been touching the ball and was in the locker room training with the players. He’s feeling good and happier. I didn’t expect this so soon, but maybe he’ll be back before the season ends – not just for the Club World Cup but for the Premier League too.” Pep Hints at Star’s Surprise Return.
Rodri’s return would be a big boost for Manchester City as they continue to compete in several tournaments.
