The Minister for Gender, Children, and Social Protection, Lariba Zuweira Abudu has assured that the government will soon pay the 2022 academic year third term arrears due the school feeding programme caterers.
She says all the necessary auditing and validation have been duly carried out, as such, the caterers will be paid next week to allow them to continue their services to the schools.
At a press briefing on Sunday, June 3, 2023, she ascribed the delay of the payment of the third term to thorough validation and auditing processes to ensure the suitable funds are distributed to caterers.
However, she noted that arrears for the first and second terms have been settled.
The aggrieved caterers working under the school feeding program drawn from the various regions over the past two months declared a nationwide strike following the government’s inability to pay them their arrears.
The caterers are also requesting an increase in the amount paid per child from GH¢1 to GH¢3.50.
According to Madam Lariba Zuweira Abudu talks to increase the cost of meal per child is yet to be concluded.
Meanwhile, the leadership of the caterers is today, Monday, June 4, expected to hold a crunch meeting to deliberate on whether to resume their work or strike.
