Pat Thomas, a highlife performer, got the highest honor during the 9th edition of Rhythms On Da Runway, entitled ‘The Masquerade,’ hosted at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC).
According to the organizers, Nineteen57 Events, the unique Black Star Honour is meant to acknowledge excellence and significant contributions to the promotion of the show industry in Ghana and Africa.
The plaque was delivered by Samuel Atta-Mensah, Managing Director of Citi FM, who said that the honor recognizes Pat Thomas’ lifetime commitment to the local creative arts sector and his “indelible legacy” in promoting Ghanaian music abroad.
The 75-year-old performer and composer, who has been engaged in the highlife scene since the 1960s, thanked the organizers and his fans for their continuing support throughout his career.
The 2021 edition of Rhythms On Da Runway was hosted in the Grand Arena of the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC) with the theme The Masquerade to promote the use of face masks in the prevention of COVID-19 transmission.
The event included recognized designers like as Senyo Foli, Katie O, Neyomi, MUDI, Jesu Segun, Nadrey Laurent, Pernia Couture, Nineteen57, Gloria Sarfo, and Attoh Andoh, as well as creations from throughout the African continent and the African diaspora.
Richard Eyimofe Evans Mofe-Damijo, or RMD, a veteran Nigerian actor, movie producer, and lawyer, was also honored for his contribution to the advancement of the African movie industry.
Abiana, Adina, Elsie Duncan Williams, D-Black, Sefa, Floewe (Eswatini), Efya, Michael Stuckey, Afriyie Wutah, Kidi, and Samini performed on the night.
