The nomination of Justices Ernest Yao Gaewu and George Kingsley Koomson to the Supreme Court has been approved by Parliament.
The nominations were made by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo in July 2022 to fill anticipated vacancies at the supreme court.
The consensus report from the Appointments Committee, which was entrusted with screening the nominations, was unanimously approved by the house.

The results of the poll were revealed on Friday by the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, who pronounced the candidates to have received approval.
The caucus maintained that Judge Gaewu was unqualified to be on the bench of the supreme court since he was running for parliament on the New Patriotic Party (NPP) ticket.
Former Minority Chief Whip and Member of Parliament for Asawase, Muntaka Mubarak suggested that his approval will be “a bad reflection on the House. When you set a bad precedent, tomorrow it becomes the yardstick for others to make this same demand.”
With regard to Mr. George Koomson, the Minority insisted that he “just joined the Court of Appeal,” and that there were other competent and qualified justices that could have been elevated to the Supreme Court instead of him.
