Workers at the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) say they do not want their Managing Director, Kwame Agyeman-Budu, to be given a contract extension since he has supposedly reached the necessary retirement age of 60.
The employees, represented by their divisional leadership in the Trade Union Congress (TUC), are demanding that the MD resign immediately.
The MD has “refused to stay away and continue to parade himself as MD and sign official documents,” according to the staff.
They went on to say that “the MD reached the 60-year mandatory retirement age on February 21, 2021.” The earlier petition, sent through the board chair, informing the board that staff will not work with the MD due to non-performance and retirement, is yet to receive a response.”
