The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has set May 30, 2025, as the final deadline for former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta to appear for questioning over alleged corruption-related offenses.
This follows negotiations between his legal team and the OSP, after the former minister was declared wanted for failing to provide a specific date for his appearance.
According to Sammy Darko, Director for Strategy, Research, and Communication at the OSP, the decision to declare Mr. Ken Ofori-Atta wanted was necessary due to his lack of cooperation.
“Our difficulty was that Mr. Ofori-Atta is a suspect in a corruption-related case, and despite being summoned, his lawyers never provided a clear date for his appearance,” Mr. Darko explained in an interview with Citi FM on Tuesday, February 18.
He clarified that the OSP exhausted all avenues before resorting to declaring him wanted. However, after discussions, Mr. Ofori-Atta’s legal team proposed a timeline between May 14 and May 30, 2025. The OSP has since accepted May 30 as the final date and removed his name from the wanted list.

Mr. Darko emphasized that failure to appear by the deadline will prompt legal action to ensure his return to Ghana, dismissing suggestions that the OSP should travel abroad to interrogate him.
“This is not just about taking statements. The process may involve an arrest, and the OSP cannot carry out an arrest in a foreign country,” he noted.
While some have questioned the approach taken by the OSP, Mr. Darko insists that all actions taken so far are within legal boundaries.
The former finance minister is expected to honor the new date, failing which the OSP may take further action against him.
