The office of the special prosecutor has emphasized that it has the authority to arrest anyone suspected to have committed any corruption or corruption-related offences.
In a Twitter post, OSP said “The general public is advised, that in exercise of its police powers, the Office of the Special Prosecutor can arrest without a warrant, any person it reasonably suspects of having committed corruption or corruption-related offences.”
This comes shortly after the Human Rights Division of the High Court in Accra quashed the arrest warrant OSP issued on Charles Bissue.
The court presided over by Justice Nicholas Abodakpi restrained the OSP from executing the arrest warrant it issued on Mr. Bissue after he failed to hounour an invitation from the Special Prosecutor.
Charles Bissue argues that he is innocent of the offenses OSP has leveled against him and asked the court to make available documents backing the OSP’s invitation to him in the ongoing investigations of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Minning (IMCIM).
OSP is investigating Charles Bissue on allegations of the use of public office for profit during his tenure as secretary to the erstwhile Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Minning (IMCIM).
