The Office of the Special Prosecutor has petitioned the Chief Justice, Her Ladyship, Justice Gertrude Torkornoo to remove Justice Edward Twum from cases pending before him.
This includes cases involving the OSP that are pending before Justice Edward Twum.
Justice Edward Twum is the judge who handles cases of the OSP in court including that of the Former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecelia Dapaah.
OSP in a social media post requested the Chief Justice to recuse or remove him from such cases.
The Special Prosecutor believes Justice Twum “appears to be highly prejudiced against the OSP and the person of the Special Prosecutor.”
As such, he stated emphatically that the OSP will not collaborate with the said Judge in proceedings before him.
“Consequently, as it stands, the OSP would not and cannot be reasonably expected to be parties to proceedings before the said judge,” parts of the statement of the OSP said.
It would be recalled on August 31 Justice Twum previously ordered the OSP to release cash seized from the residence of the former Minister.
according to Justice Twum, the OSP did not have full proof of the true ownership of the money and its relation with the cases of the former Minister.
“If he (OSP) is unsure as to ownership, how did he reach the conclusion that the property is tainted?” Justice Twum questioned.
However, even though the OSP complied with the order of the presiding judge, he issued a freezing order for the money belonging to Cecelia Dapaah.
