The Senior Vice President and Policy Analyst of IMANI Ghana, Kofi Bentil has commended the Special Prosecutor for his diligent approach in combating corruption in Ghana.
He, however, mentioned that there is a need for the OSP to address deeper issues like the influence of money in elections and among people in high offices.
Mr. Bentil underscored the common practice of people entering public office to use public resources for personal gain.
Meanwhile, he says it is crucial to maintain a steadfast fight against corruption, though it can be challenging.
He reiterated the need for consistent support from the public for the special prosecutor emphasizing the challenges in the fight against corruption and the significance of addressing major issues such as political monetization.
“The OSP’s job is not easy. It was never going to be easy. So, what we should look for is a man like Kissi Agyebeng, who, despite what he has to deal with, will proceed, struggle through, and will get us to a better place”, he asserted.
His comments follow the arrest of the Chief Executive Officer of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, Kofi Ofosu Nkansa in connection with alleged embezzlement linked to the NPP primary elections.
Kofi Ofosu Nkansa is alleged to have taken monies that belong to the state and distributed them to delegates in a bit to buy votes in the NPP primary elections at the Asante Akyim constituency.
In an interview on the JOYNEWSFILE, The IMANI Ghana representative emphasized the complexity of combating corruption, adding that there is a need for persistent and dedicated efforts against it.
On his part, the former United Nations Governance Advisor, Professor Baffour Agyeman Duah raised concerns about public confidence within the political system which to him, ought to be a reexamination of the way political affairs are conducted in Ghana amid the presence of corruption in the system.
“There’s a serious case of political corruption and moral corruption. There is a need for a radical change first in our constitution and in the way we do political business. We have created an inherently corrupt system and people do these things and get away so there’s no public accountability in these kinds of matters.”
He affirmed that the OSP may leave office as a disappointed individual.
