Organized Labour has directed all unions under its umbrella to resume work on Tuesday, July 16, following the suspension of its strike, which took effect on Monday, July 15.
In a statement, Organized Labour indicated it has formally received a letter from the Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT) that it had terminated the sale of 60% of its stake in the hotels.
Organized Labour therefore decided to call off the strike at an emergency meeting on Monday, July 15, 2024.
Meanwhile, they have given SSNIT a one-month ultimatum to engage them on outstanding issues related to the management of their pensions or risk facing further action.
The strike was in response to SSNIT’s proposed sale of shares Labadi Beach Hotel, La Palm Royal Beach Resort, Elmina Beach Resort, and Ridge Royal Hotel.
Workers under organized labour who joined the strike included the Ghana National Association of Teachers, the Judicial Service Staff Association of Ghana (JUSAG), the Ghana Medical Association (GMA), the Ghana Private Road Transport Union of TUC Ghana (GPRTU), and the various teacher unions, including the National Association of Graduate Teachers and the Teachers and Educational Workers Union (TEWU).
