According to the Cape Coast Regional Police Command’s Criminal Investigations Department, one suspect has been detained in connection with the death of headteacher, Yaw Eyifa Gorman.
On Saturday, May 22, 2021, Mr. Gorman was shot dead when he parked his car after returning from a census training workshop.
According to an eyewitness, Steven Essoun, who recounted the attack, the suspect did not steal anything from the deceased.
“It occurred at 7:45 p.m., while everybody was in their respective rooms. When he entered, we heard the sound of his engine, followed by an unusually noisy sound. We assumed it was a blown tyre or a knockout. And we saw people yelling for help.”
According to Steven Essoun, people came out of their homes to see the deceased unconscious in his car with gunshot wounds to his head.
The headteacher was immediately taken to the ambulance, where he was declared dead.
According to investigators, the person who is now in custody is aiding them in their investigations.
“Police intelligence contributed to the apprehension of one person in connection with the above murder case. The suspect is being held in custody to help with the investigations. Details will be provided,” a police notice said.
The suspect’s identity has not yet been made public.
