OGB Music never paid me a penny – Fameye

Fameye, a Ghanaian highlife singer-musician, has revealed that he never got the GHS 2.5 million sign-on bonus from his former record company, OGB Music, as reported in the media.

The sign-on money, he claims, was utilized by the label, led by Ogidi Brown, to film music videos and other music-related expenses, rather than for his personal use.

The award-winning singer said that even though he had split ways with his previous record company, they had contributed to the success of his music career.

Fameye claimed that even though he left the previous label after paying an unknown sum of money, monetary gains from streams of some of his works are channeled to his former boss.

For the interest of peace, he said that he has chosen not to fight over the ownership of music produced under the previous record company.

“I am just happy I have been able to pay. He still has my songs. He is taking monies from the streams of my songs”.

Fameye, who was born Peter Famiyeh Bozah, said that feuds between musicians and record companies are generally business-related.

He said that some record companies believe that musicians signed to their labels have little to contribute because of the assistance provided to them (artists) to typically provide them visibility and market their work.

“Talent is money, and the record label is also bringing the physical money. So both of us are supposed to do business. But we make it look like record labels or managers are rather helping artists and the artists have nothing to offer. While they are bringing in the talent and lots of energy onboard”.

He said that certain musicians are labeled as ungrateful as a result of uneven treatment at their record companies.

Despite his disagreements with his previous record company, Fameye insists that he would never quit music.

“There’s nothing else I can do apart from music. Even if nobody listens to my music, I will never stop music,” he said.

The ‘Noting I Get’ hitmaker stated that his work is undervalued in the nation since the artistic value of his videos is not widely recognized.

Rather, his works are admired by individuals living outside of the nation.

“People outside Ghana and beyond are those who appreciate the artistic value of my videos”.

Fameye said that his new song, named ‘Praise,’ tells the narrative of his life and expresses his gratitude to God.

The talented composer is now busy at work on a new EP titled ‘Four Chapters of Peter.’

According to Fameye, the new album consists of four chapters of messages he wants to convey to his fans through his music.

Fameye warned young artists to be cautious of the contracts they sign when others show interest in assisting them in honing their skills.
