The president of the Ghana Registered Nurses‘ & Midwives‘ Association, Mrs. Pepertual Ofori-Ampofo has advised nurses against relegating their duties to render care to patients to their caregivers and relatives.
Speaking at this year’s 4-day boot camp for over 100 youth nurses and midwives from across the regions in the country under the theme: ” youthful transformation of health system through innovation; the nursing and midwifery perspective, ” she said it is prudent to prepare the youth to take up the mantle from the older generation without bringing the image of the profession into disrepute
She however cautioned nurses across the country not to indulge in activities that dent the profession on social media
“Your presence at the ward is fulfilling to your patients and clients. Slay at the ward by doing what is right for your patients and clients. Do not take to social media in your uniforms and be doing what is not expected of you. Nursing and Midwifery are noble professions; let us maintain the respect of our profession…”she intimated.
Country Head of the United Nations Youth Association, Her Excellency Lilian Sally Addo encouraged the nurses and midwives to be responsible on social media and also continue to upgrade their skills, socialize and network amongst their peers and seniors to enable them improve on their output.
The Ghana Registered Nurses‘ & Midwives‘ Association called on government to fulfill its promises of paying its members the medical insurance and compensations for those who got infected with Covid-19, some of whom are critically ill as well as honour the 50% allowance for the frontline health workers.
