Dr. Gifty Oware Mensah, the Deputy Executive Director of the National Service Scheme (NSS) has warned prospective National Service personnel against illegal procedures in special postings.
She also cautioned them to be vigilant to avoid being scammed.
“You are as a criminal as the one that received the money. And when they are arrested, you will also be arrested,” she stressed.
Dr. Gifty Oware Mensah spoke at a day’s orientation session for final-year students in the College of Humanities and Legal Studies and the College of Agriculture and Natural Sciences at the University of Cape Coast for their upcoming National Service.
The event aimed to enlighten participants on the necessary dos and don’ts, as well as the processes involved in the National Service Scheme.
Dr. Oware Mensah urged the final-year students to apply wisdom in their dealings, emphasizing that the Scheme would not take responsibility they get scammed.
In her presentation, the deputy executive director of the NSS guided the students on the right procedures and channels to access when they need to be reposted.
“What happens is that if you are posted, and you do not like the place you were posted to, for any reason whatsoever, my advice, is please go to the National Service office. In any of the regional offices you are registered in, speak to the regional director. At least, you may be heard, and you will be reposted.”
During the orientation, Dr. Mensah underscored the significance of integrity, professionalism, and dedication in fulfilling their service obligations.
Students were briefed on the criteria the scheme considers in selecting national service personnel.
Dr. Gifty Oware Mensah mentioned that the scheme considers the eligible age 18 to 40 years, adding that prospective applicants must be of a sound mind and possess a degree from a recognized tertiary institution.
The session was crowned with an interactive question and answer session where students voiced their suggestions for the Scheme.
