Following a demonstration of academic excellence, St Louis SHS has advanced to the first round of the 2023 National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ).

The school overcame the champions of the Ashanti regional competition, Anglican SHS in Kumasi and Wesley Grammar SHS, to qualify for their second participation in thirteen years.

The ladies from Oduom in the Ashanti region of Ghana will compete against the quiz’s two-time winners, Wesley ladies’ High School and Achimota School, in the first semi-final match.

Prior to their quarterfinal match, the school defeated Central regional winners Adisadel College by a 30-point margin.

The local competitors from Louisville, Super KASS, were expected by many quiz fans to start strong, but they fell short.

At the end of the game, the Disciples had just 24 points, while Wesley Grammar had 21 points.

The ladies, Faizatu Mbo and Philipa Ennuson, continue to astound quiz fans by winning their quarterfinal round by a 26-point margin over their closest competitor.

The ‘giant slayers,’ as they’ve been dubbed, have become a favourite of many NSMQ supporters.

In an academic battle, the ladies outpaced their opponents at each level of the competition, proving to be an unbeatable foe as they set their sights on becoming the third female school to reach the national tournament’s grand-finale.

When it was revealed that “the pacesetters” had won the third quarterfinal game, their camp erupted in jubilation.

Students and male school associates couldn’t disguise their joy as they sang, danced, and chanted ‘Primus inter pares’ – to wit, the foremost among equals.

The competition’s big finale is something that management, current and past St. Louis SHS students, and school associations are eager to compete in.

The last time an all-female secondary school participated in the National Science and Maths Quiz grand-finale was ten years ago.

Wesley Girls’ High School and Mfantsiman Girls’ Secondary School are the only two female schools to have competed in the grand-finale in 1999 and 2013, respectively.
