The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set to commence the process of selecting a flagbearer for the 2024 general elections.
Starting today, Friday, May 26, 2023, the party will open nominations for interested candidates to apply.
The nomination window will remain open until June 26, after which the selection process will begin.
In a press statement, the party declared that “Nomination forms shall be obtained from the Office of the General Secretary at the Party Headquarters, Asylum Down, in Accra from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm (Monday to Friday)”.
On Monday, April 3, 2023, the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) and National Council in a meeting made the decision to open nominations.
The NPP’s presidential primary election is slated to take place in November 2023.
Flagbearer hopefuls are expected to pay a non-refundable nomination fee of GH¢50,000 to obtain the nomination forms, which are available from the Office of the General Secretary at the Party Headquarters in Asylum Down.
In a statement, the party expressed its commitment to holding a free, fair, transparent, and peaceful election and called on all stakeholders to work towards achieving this goal.
The party also announced the timeline for the electoral process, which includes Special Electoral College Elections, if necessary, on August 26, 2023, and the National Congress on November 4, 2023.
so far five individuals have publicly declared their intention to contest the NPP flagbearership race. These are Vice President, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kojo Kyeremanten, Kwabena Adjei Agyepong, MP for Assin Central, Kennedy Agyepong, and former Agric Minister, Osei Afriyie Akoto.
